We even decided that it would be great to have chickens.
Mind you, we knew very little about raising chickens.
But, after doing my home work and finding a cheap chicken coop on Craig's list, we took the plunge.
The coop we bought is really cute, but is equally as small.
We thought it would be a great starter coop, especially since we wanted to start off on this journey slowly.
We bought 4 baby chicks, although the coop we have really should house 2-3 birds.
Honestly, we didn't have much faith in our chicken raising ability and thought that surely they wouldn't all survive.
But, they have!
Now enters my dilemma of feeling sorry for our poor, sweet chickens being squished in their coop.
We decided to try letting them out to graze in the yard for a bit.
Mind you, we have no fence to keep them in and there are various dogs, including our own, who are in the same yard at any given time of the day.
I know, I know....chickens roam yards all day long.
I've seen it with my own two eyes.
But, these were MY chickens, MY babies!
This momma's heart was a nervous wreck when Mike opened the hatch.
Would they wander away?
How would the dogs react?
Would they ever come back to the safety of their cozy little home?
Then, I noticed something that I did not quite expect.
While they enjoyed the freedom, they were overly cautious about leaving the coop.
Our sweet babies never left about a 3 foot diameter away from their comfort zone.
In fact, one of our roosters, almost immediately headed straight back into the coop.
There he was. The world at his open doorstep. Yet, he chose to remain in the confines of his comfortable home.
Our experience with our chickens this afternoon made me think.
I thought of many correlations between the chickens and their experience alongside our experience with our walk with the Lord.
So, if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
John 8:36
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
2 Corinthians 3:17
For freedom, Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.
Galatians 5:1
What has you imprisoned?
Is God calling you to step out of your comfort zone?
Take that leap.
Walk out of that cage.
And do not fear.
For the Lord will provide.
Rest in His goodness!
(By the way, my chicken babies are all snug in their coop for the night.)
But, they will enjoy their freedom again tomorrow!
